Throughout 2009, sovereignty was the issue that I heard about the most from the people who attended tea parties. Recognizing there was a genuine grassroots movement across the country in support of of the many resolution efforts, Nebraskans wanted to see action on this issue in the state.
Senator Tony Fulton provided the vehicle when he announced in June that he would be introducing a resolution at the opening of the 2010 Unicameral session. The symposium held in Omaha at the beginning of 2010 provided opportunities for supporters to come together, adding even more support.
On February 19, 2010, LR 292 was heard before the Legislature’s Government Veterans and Military Affairs Committee. Grassroots in Nebraska worked with the bill’s sponsor Senator Tony Fulton to coordinate relevant testimony. We reached out to many other groups throughout the state including 9/12 Nebraska (Omaha) 9/12 Grand Island, NE Campaign for Liberty, Grassroots Patriots (Papillion), Minutemen Patriots, We the People of North Platte, Hastings, and others.
